San Maurizio Gourmet

Relais San Maurizio is located at the top of a hill that overlooks the Santo Stefano Belbo landscape, at the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont, one of the most celebrated gastronomic regions of Italy very famous for truffle and good wine. The San Maurizio monastery was founded in 1619 by the Franciscans who remained there until 1802. Originally coming from Provence, these monks imported grape cultivation and wine production into the area.

The Franciscans were followed by the Trappist and Cistercian monks who remained until 1862 when the property was sold to Count Luigi Incisa Beccaria who transformed it into a private home. In 1997 the monastery was purchased by its current owner, renovated and returned to its ancient splendor as a luxury hotel (opened in 2002).

The location is simply amazing. The frescoes halls, the 31 rooms with unique decorations, the gardens and the park with centuries-old trees are all truly enchanting. The large outdoor swimming pool at the top of the hill provides a 360° view of the surrounding landscape. The hotel is also home to the Michelin starred “da Guido da Costigliole” restaurant and the exclusive Medical & Beauty SPA. This is an unique Relais & Chateaux.
